CTNC’s Resilience Corps NC program pairs time-limited service members and interns with non-profit and local municipal partners under a federal grant and other funding. The Community Resilience Manager coordinates fulfillment of grant compliance requirements by overseeing program parameters, communicating expectations to program participants, and training program participants in required activities.
This role works closely with a variety of stakeholders including CTNC leadership, CTNC community partners and the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service (VolunteerNC) to ensure successful programming. While this position does not currently have any direct reports within CTNC, it is responsible for recruiting, supervising and training cohorts of program participants, including service members and/or interns. Resilience Corps NC serves under-resourced communities so this role needs to be aware of the challenges that may impact those communities and intentionally approach the work with a focus on best outcomes for all stakeholders who participate in the program.
The ideal candidate will be highly skilled at multi-tasking and project management, excited by collaboration and strategizing, and committed to carrying out the mission of CTNC through Resilience Corps NC.
Responsibilities
Grant Writing, Budget Creation and Management
- Leads creation of program budget and program parameters, collaborating with other stakeholders to submit grant applications and ensure program alignment with CTNC’s mission
- Understands and can interpret grant terms and basic contract language
- Verifies and approves expenses related to the grant, maintaining real-time, seamless communication with management team regarding budget-impacting activities
- Works with Finance to submit budget amendments as necessary
- Balances program demands with organizational capacity; can discern and choose between required grant activities and those not contractually required
Compliance
- Is an expert on applicable grant rules, regulations and procedures; ensures compliance by all program participants and CTNC staff
- Provides training and direction to service members or interns regarding allowable expenses and prohibited activities
- Maintains rigorous records; updates policies, procedures, forms, and all artifacts
- Establishes and enforces memorandums of understanding with all community partners
- Ensures service members and interns meet all program requirements
- Participates in financial reviews including annual grant and organizational audits
- Participates in continuing education, including required grant management training
- Proactively identifies risks and adjusts program parameters to mitigate them
Program Development and Oversight
- Works with management team to identify and solicit community and conservation partners who need additional capacity to plan and implement projects related to flood mitigation, fire safety, heat, climate adaptation, conservation stewardship, volunteer recruitment and engagement; or other projects aligned with CTNC’s mission and conservation goals
- Works with management team and community partners to develop and post job descriptions for prospective service members or interns
- Supports the hiring process by helping community partners evaluate the suitability of candidates using a multi-faceted rubric
- Networks and builds community with other service program directors, incorporating best practices and lessons learned
- Performs site visits (in person and virtual)
- Creates and executes 3+ training events for service members or interns each grant term
- Identify work-force development trainings for service members or interns that are aligned with CTNC’s conservation mission
- Attends required service member support events
- Supports members to resolve any problems that may arise during their service term
- Plans and executes project deliverables on time
- Coordinates across other CTNC functions (finance, philanthropy, administration) to ensure efficiency and clarity as needed
- Works with site supervisors to mentor members and interns
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ years in a professional setting, with regular time in-office
- Experience managing multiple projects or programs while applying rigor and meeting highly structured timelines
- Self-motivated, clear communicator with a pragmatic approach to solving problems and operating in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
- Comfort managing budgets; understands basic financial language (revenue vs. expenses) and the importance of fiscal compliance
- Demonstrated understanding of systemic racial inequities and ability to utilize it to inform programmatic decisions
- Can influence, mentor, and lead others to achievement and through conflict
- Willingness and ability to travel (within North Carolina, 1-3 times per month), sometimes overnight
Preferred
- Previous national service experience (management or participation)
- Previous experience or education with conservation or environmental sector
- Certifications in project management, nonprofit management or grant management
- Experience with event planning, volunteer or stakeholder coordination, professional training, and public speaking
Essential Needs
- Must be able to complete a federal background check
- Comfort with all Microsoft tools including excel, word, email and teams
- Proficient in video call platforms like Zoom, WebEx, GoTo Meeting, etc.
- Physical Demands: must be able to sit/stand at a computer and type for long periods
- Must be able to drive a vehicle and navigate unpaved terrain
Transportation
- Must provide their own transportation to/from office and to service sites
- Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate
Salary/Benefits
Starting Salary: $48,000-52,000
This is a full-time, permanent position dependent on continued grant funding.
Position Location: Triangle-based, hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days in office per week required. Supervisor may request additional days in the Raleigh office when not travelling to fulfill job duties.
