Do you LUV your SUV?

hummer

I gotta know. If you have an SUV, do you LUV it? Or are you just stuck with it, unable to sell it? Or do you feel you "need" it? CNN wants to know, too. They had readers send in comments on why they have SUV's. Lots of the folks said they can't sell it, lots said they needed the space, but there of course were some really off-the-wall responses as well. Anyway, I thought we could do our own little poll...so tell us: what's the deal with your SUV LUV?

It's a LUV / HATE Relationship...

Ahhh... the great SUV debate. Yes, I drive one. Yes, I am glad to (even though some of my friends hate me for it). Yes, I feel like I need the space and the safety it provides. When I made the initial purchase of my SUV, here was my line of thinking... it's safe (a heavy vehicle with constant AWD make adverse weather conditions a virtual non-issue), it's roomy (seats 6 adults comfortably and 8 if everyone is wearing deodorant), it is high off the ground and has the 4WD option (a convincing point for those who enjoy the outdoors enough to warrant off-roading capabilities). Besides, what else am I going to fit 2-3 adults and 3 children (complete with car seats) into? I mean, have you noticed how ginormous car seats are these days? With most car seat models, you can't sit them right next to each other - you need a vacant space in between them. If someone would design smaller, more space-efficient car seats, I would gladly consider trading in my SUV for a smaller vehicle, but that poses yet another issue... I feel like I am totally stuck with it as it depreciates even more rapidly than the most recent real estate "bust". Unfortunately, it is now too late to do anything about it - or, so it seems. To actually trade it in for anything else right now would be financially... ummm, STUPID! Yet, holding on to it is not financially smart either in the face of current gas prices. At over $100.00 per tank of the recommended octane (93) and with the amount of driving that I do, my monthly fuel bill is now about the same amount as my mortgage payment. So, what's an SUV LUVer to do?
