Land Protection Coordinator
• Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in natural resources, land planning, law or related field.
• Working knowledge of real estate transactions, land conservation techniques and practices, and working knowledge of the financial aspects and tax consequences of land conservation donations or acquisitions.
• Two or more years of experience in land conservation, land planning, estate planning or other related field preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with little supervision and also to work closely as part of a dynamic and motivated team.
• An outgoing, friendly personality, with the ability to earn the trust and respect of landowners quickly.
• A demonstrated ability to be a proactive self-starter, with the ability and drive to plan new programs, expand existing programs, and advance the Conservancy's land protection efforts.
• Strong negotiation, verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with a commitment to accurate and detailed work products.
• A passion for conservation, and a willingness to work with people from diverse backgrounds to advance the Conservancy's mission.
• Ability to build community partnerships, and to serve effectively as a face for the Conservancy in promoting land conservation to landowners and to the broad community.
• Experience with land conservation development, public finance for conservation, and innovative approaches to conservation a real plus.
• Working knowledge of, and experience in, the application of GIS technology also a real plus.
Salary commensurate with experience.

The land protection coordinator is an integral member of the land protection team and works directly with landowners to promote, craft, negotiate and execute land conservation projects. The land protection coordinator partners with the associate director, technology director, land stewardship director and conservation program director to advance the conservancy’s land protection goals. ***** Duties and Responsibilities: ***** • Make landowners aware of the Conservancy’s mission and programs; explain conservation options available to private landowners, including land and conservation easement donations; and explain the benefits associated with these options and programs. • Coordinate strategic conservation planning activities, including identification of potential project areas and landowner outreach in those areas. Land Protection Coordinator Regional Land Trust Charlotte, NC • Perform field investigations of candidate acquisition properties and coordinate data collection and synthesis related to land protection activities. • Negotiate land acquisition transactions with landowners and their advisors. Draft contracts and agreements between parties and work closely with real estate attorneys to finalize documentation. • Complete land transactions through diligence and effective communication with all parties; document generation and procurement of closing services, including surveys, appraisals and title insurance. • Coordinate and communicate land protection activities with the Conservancy’s Board of Directors, Land Acquisition Committee, County Advisory Committees, and with other project partners, including conservation organizations and government agencies. • Prepare grant requests and other funding strategies for specific land protection projects. • Prepare reports and presentations related to land protection activities. • Work on special projects as required by the associate director. Catawba Lands Conservancy permanently protects land, water and wildlife habitat to enhance the quality of life in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Lincoln and Union counties, as well as in the southern portions of Catawba and Iredell. The land protection coordinator’s role is integral to the success of advancing the mission of Catawba Lands Conservancy, building community awareness, promoting conservation and the Conservancy, and connecting people to land.
