Required Qualifications
• Degree(s) in economics, business administration, finance, public policy, and/or related field(s).
• Demonstrated strong economic analysis and research skills.
• 1 year professional work experience required.
• Confidence in communicating with both technical and non-technical individuals, and a variety of public figures and officials.
• Ability to work well under pressure, with shifting priorities and sometimes adversarial conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Masters' degree in applied or regulatory economics.
• Experience in simple economic or statistical modeling.
• 1 to 3 years work experience in: public utility; independent power producer; trading floor; regional transmission organization; highly regulated industry; or similar experience.

NCSEA’s policy work has set numerous sustainable energy policy precedents for the Southeastern United States in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, rate restructuring and mitigating global climate change. This is an exciting and unique career opportunity to be part of the NCSEA policy team. ***** Position Description: The Economics & Policy Analyst (Economic Analyst) works under the supervision of the Policy Director in a fast-paced, analytical environment to ensure rapid and accurate completion of all day-to-day policy activities. ***** Work will primarily include: economic analysis and research to strengthen NCSEA’s intervention in North Carolina Utilities Commission (Utilities Commission) electricity-related dockets (integrated resource planning, avoided cost, electric rate reform, incentives identification, market analysis, sustainability analysis, etc.); drafting and supporting passage of legislation; research and integration with NCSEA’s economic development initiatives; and publications. Part of the Economic Analyst’s time will be spent working with the Senior Associate on sustainable energy market development programs. The Economic Analyst will support the Policy Director in development and implementation of annual and long-term strategy, and assist the Senior Associate in developing robust sustainable energy sector market data and analysis. ***** Responsibilities: • Assist Policy Director in executing NCSEA’s short- and long-term strategy for sustainable energy with an emphasis on reviewing the economics of electric utility filings to the Utilities Commission, and identifying or synthesizing good economic policies to enable sustainable business practices in a regulated electricity market. • Conduct economic research and analysis to support NCSEA’s policy decision making, market development programs, and write position papers including, but not limited to, Commission filings, legislative memoranda and content for the NCSEA website, newsletters, annual report, market analysis and other publications. • Assist legal representation of NCSEA with economic analysis before the Commission to ensure the highest possible quality of input and participation. • Serve on advisory groups, committees, commissions, study panels, etc. as appropriate. • Assist with grant proposals.
