Required:

· Personal religious faith.
· Working knowledge of the science of global climate change.
· Familiarity with public policy solutions and energy generation technologies.
· Ability to communicate effectively with people of faith.
· Ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds and viewpoints.
· Strong written and oral communications skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail usage, and internet applications.
· Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.

· College degree and/or graduate degree in environmental studies, science, and/or religion.
· Four years relevant work.
· Fundraising experience.
· An understanding of congregational and judicatorial structures.
· Knowledge of various religious teachings on the care of Creation and on economic justice.
· Affiliation with a faith community that is part of the NC Council of Churches.

Residence and travel: Some travel is required, mostly within North Carolina. Residence in the Triangle is preferred.

Fulltime position with annual salary of $40,000 - $44,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Current benefits include group health plan (paid 50% by employer) and short-term disability insurance, plus paid state holidays, vacation time, and sick leave.

North Carolina Interfaith Power & Light is seeking an outstanding leader to direct its work with faith congregations to address global warming and its solutions. North Carolina IPL is a program of the NC Council of Churches, an ecumenical organization of judicatories and congregations working for social justice and Christian unity. NC IPL is also one of 29 state-level affiliates of Interfaith Power & Light USA, an interfaith ministry devoted to helping people of faith recognize and fulfill their responsibility for the stewardship of creation. *****The Director of NC IPL is employed as an Associate of the NC Council of Churches reporting to the Council’s Executive Director. The Director of NC IPL is responsible for the overall management and development of NC IPL. Responsibilities include administration and financial management, fund raising, public policy advocacy, program development, communications, working with coalitions, and steering committee relations. *****Responsibilities***** 1. Leads in the planning and implementation of programs, advocacy efforts, and organizational structures that further the NC IPL mission. 2. Works with the NC IPL Steering Committee in carrying out the organizational mission. 3. Supervises NC IPL staff and leads in hiring, in conjunction with the Executive Director and through the Council’s hiring process. 4. Has responsibility for securing all NC IPL salary and program funds from foundations, religious institutions, and individuals. 5. Creates and ensures compliance with NC IPL budget. 6. Leads in establishing public policy positions and undertaking advocacy actions. 7. Represents NC IPL with the faith-based public, partnering organizations, and the media. 8. Works with the state’s clean energy coalition and with Grassroots Energy Alliance. 9. Works with Interfaith Power & Light Affiliated Network and national office to further the IPL mission at state and national levels. Attends the annual conference, participates in conference calls, serves on one or more committees, and submits an annual report. 10. Maintains a working relationship with the Council’s Executive Director and staff, especially the webmaster, bookkeeper, and development director. Attends Council Executive Board meetings, major Council events, and staff meetings.
