Haw River Assembly
Bynum, NC
The Haw River Assembly seeks a Safety and Logistics Coordinator for its outdoor environmental education program. This unique grassroots program brings schoolchildren to the Haw River for three weeks each fall, to learn about the river, and it’s natural and cultural history. The position is full time for eight weeks, from August 25 – October 17, 2008. *****Job Description: The Learning Celebration (LC) is a three week long hands-on river education program for fourth graders who live throughout the Haw River watershed. Each week, 30 volunteer crew members camp on the river banks at one of three sites in Guilford, Alamance or Chatham County. School children visit these sites for day long field trips, learning about river ecology and water issues. Art, music, science, giant puppets and the wildlife of the river combine to make memorable experiences that nurture stewardship for the river. The Safety and Logistics Coordinator, also referred to as the Assistant Coordinator, is contracted for eight weeks. This includes four weeks of preparation, three weeks of the program, September 20 – October 10, and one week of follow-up. The contract is for $3200. The work will be people-intensive and physically demanding.
